How to Keep score in Pickleball

In pickleball, scoring is straightforward once you understand the rules. Let’s break it down:

  1. Game Objective:
    • The game is won by the first team or player to score 11 points with a margin of 2 points (e.g., 11-9, 12-10, etc.).
    • Similar to tennis, badminton, and other racquet-type games, the goal is to win the rally.
  2. Scoring Basics:
    • Only the serving team can score points.
    • A point is earned when the serving team wins a rally by causing the opposing side to fault or fail to return the ball.
    • Rallies involve hitting the ball back and forth after the serve and before a fault.
    • Both the serving team and the receiving team play important roles in winning points.
  3. Serving Sequence:
    • Doubles: Both players on the serving team have the opportunity to serve and score points until they commit a fault (except for the first service sequence of each new game).
    • The first serve starts from the right/even court.
    • After scoring a point, the server switches sides and serves from the left/odd court.
    • The server continues switching sides until a fault occurs.
    • The second server serves until their team commits a fault.
    • In singles, the server serves from the right/even court when their score is even and from the left/odd court when the score is odd.
  4. Two-Bounce Rule:
    • When the ball is served, the receiving team must let it bounce before returning, and then the serving team must also let it bounce before returning (thus two bounces).

Remember, communication is key! The server announces the score before each serve, and the game ends when one team reaches the required points with a two-point lead. Enjoy your pickleball matches! 🏓🥒🎾

CBS Sunday Morning – rise of pickleball

Sunday, August 7, 2022, CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley will feature a segment on pickleball. Time to schedule your TV recorder or watch it live. This is another first in the pickleball world; more and more big-time media are highlighting the history, players, popularity, and of course the love of pickleball. I’m excited to tune in and watch, but I must confess that I’ve been recording the CBS Sunday Morning weekly shows for years. It’s one of my favorites and the fact that a favorite show has our favorite sport on it… SO AWESOME! Check it out on link below on you tube!
